Simple Strategies to Ease Your Work-From-Home Job Search

Finding legitimate work from home opportunities can be a challenging task for the work at home wannabe.  The process itself can be fairly complex and finding that perfect job is not as easy as it may seem.  When you’ve spent hours, days, and months searching for a legitimate opportunity, only to get taken in by false claims, where can you go for help?

Here are some basic tips to help you in your work from home job search that will help decrease your frustration and ease the pain.

1. Perform a self-skills analysis.  What are your skills and what do you want to do?  What are you good at, and what areas are you experienced in?

2. Join communities, message boards, forums and other groups that are focused on working from home to obtain useful and valid work from home information.  This is a great way to get job leads, obtain information and share your experience with others.  I cannot stress how important it is to network with others!

3. Create a professional resume that outlines any and all relevant experience.  Be specific when doing so because a potential employer is going to want to know specifically what you have to offer.  Outline your skills in a specific manner and include what particular software programs you have worked with and how you have utilized those.  Keep that resume focused on that job you are applying for!

4. Follow-up with potential employers.  Don’t wait in line as if you have all the time in the world. A simple follow-up phone call or email means a lot to most potential employers.  You have to remember, companies that hire home-based workers are usually overwhelmed with potential candidates.  If you contact them, they are much more likely to remember your expressed interest.

5. Avoid those that claim to provide a work from home opportunity for a fee.  There are a few legitimate places that may charge a fee for certain things, but watch very closely before committing to those.  Why in the world should you have to pay someone for the opportunity to work for them?

6. Patience and persistence are both very important when you are looking.  Don’t expect to be earning a full time income immediately, unless you happen to get really lucky and instantly land the perfect job.  

Just remember, you have to start somewhere and finding that job most likely will not happen instantaneously.  Be patient and persistent, never give up!  I wish you luck in finding the job that suits you!

Network Your Way To A Work At Home Job

When you first start to look for a work at home job, it’s easy to get discouraged. Postings for work at home jobs can be scarce and when they do come up, competition among applicants is fierce. What many moms (and now dads too) new to telecommuting don’t realize is that there is another way to land a work at home job – Networking. Many people get their work at home jobs either directly from or as a referral through other people they network with. 

When you are networking, you are not actively pursuing a work at home job. Your main focus should be on making new friends in the Telecommuting community. Down the road those friends may send you a lead for a great job, but first you have to make those friends. 

Let’s take a look at four different ways to network in the Work at Home Community. 

Message Boards
Message boards are a great way to network with other telecommuters. Spend your time asking questions and answer the questions of other people. You may not see any immediate return for the time invested in networking on the boards, but it will pay off in the long run. 

If you are a person that is helpful and well liked on the message board, and one of the other board members comes across a position they are not qualified for, or they just don’t need the extra work at the moment, they will likely think of you and send the lead your way (and you should do the same). 

Creating those types of relationships are what you are working to create through networking on message boards. 

Online Groups
One of the biggest online groups is the Ryze Network, but there are also Google, Yahoo and MSN Groups. Each of these networks has groups on any topic under the sun. 

Search for Telecommuting groups and lurk around a few for a while. You’ll find one or two groups that seem like a good fit for you and then start participating. 

Instant Messenger
After you have gotten to know some other telecommuters on the boards or in the groups, approach them about exchanging Instant Messenger ids. You know have a fast one-on-one way to stay in touch with them and to further build a relationship. 

Local Work At Home Mom Groups
Check with your local chamber of commerce or the small business organization to find some local offline networking events. Just like networking in the online world, you are there to meet new people and develop relationships with them.

Be careful not to get too wrapped up with chatting though…it’s all too easy to get wrapped up in message boards and spend hours a day networking!

Is a Data Entry Job, Working From Home Right For You?

While working at a Data Entry Job sounds like the perfect job, working from home isn’t for everyone.  Having said that, it could be just the thing for many people, you just have to assess if you are ready and committed to take on a data entry job and make it a success.  The attraction is that it is an amazing alternative to the daily chore of going out to work for someone else. 

What is important is that you take a long hard look at your circumstances, your lifestyle, your commitment and your ability to motivate yourself. Don't just go out and resign your job before you have even tried starting a data entry job.  Take a while to ask yourself some basic questions:-

- What are my strengths?
- What are my weaknesses?
- Do I enjoy flexibility?
- Can I plan the family activities so they do not interfere?
- Will my family support my new career?
- Do I have self-discipline?

Decide what your strengths are.  There is not one type of person that is just right for this type of work.  Everyone has strengths and you need to decide if yours are the ones you need for this kind of work.  Some strengths that might help in this kind of work could be:

- You like attention to detail
- You enjoy working on the computer
- You like to work on different projects
- You are dependable

These are just a few to give you an idea.  There are so many things that you could consider a strength that would benefit you working from home.

Now take a serious look at your weaknesses.  Decide if they will cause a problem or if you can work around them.  For instance, you might say that your weakness is that you can't get up in the mornings.  This could be a problem if you schedule your only work time at 8 a.m. but if you schedule your work for the afternoon or the evening then this would not be a problem.  This is part of the benefit of working from home - you can decide for yourself how and when you want to work.

How flexible are you?  If you are a person that thrives on flexibility then you will especially enjoy taking on different data entry jobs and allowing yourself to work at various times and for varying lengths of time.  If you are not a very flexible person (be honest!) then you can still make a great job of this by being more diligent about scheduling your time and also by planning your jobs ahead. 

If you are planning to work at a data entry job from home you will have to consider your family.  While it is important to set aside time without interruption, it is not realistic to think that  the family will never interrupt.  There will always be times when you will have to change your priorities.  A good discussion with your family outlining what everyone’s expectations are would be a great idea. 

Some people just know that they have great self-discipline while others are not sure.  If you think you do then you won't have any problems.  If you are not sure, don't despair.  It is amazing where self-discipline comes from when you are interested in what you are doing. Many people find that the mere fact that they are working for themselves is a huge motivating factor.  It is a very different feeling from grinding out the work for some one else.  You may not have a boss breathing down your neck, but many people are surprised to discover that they will push themselves harder than any boss would have.

It is definitely a good idea to learn about how to prioritize and organize your work.  As with any job or home business, there will be jobs that you will really enjoy and jobs that you will want to put off.  Take some time to learn some simple routines for organizing such as making lists of things to do that day.  Your lists could be split up into priority A and B so that you keep on track each day and stick to the most important tasks.

Organization is important, especially when you work at home.  Make sure you have an area where you can sit at your computer and carry out the data entry jobs with everything you need close by.  Try to separate your business things from your personal things.

In conclusion I would say that most people could be suited to working from home at data entry jobs if they just take the time to think things through and prepare themselves mentally and physically. The benefits of this kind of work are worth the effort it could take to adapt to this way of life.

How To Choose A Home Business Or Job

One thing I constantly see from "newbies" to the work at home world is, "I'm so confused, I don't know where to start!" It's true, there is so much information out there, and not all of it good. Scams are mixed right in with legitimate business opportunities and jobs.

Here is a very simple way to decide on a direction if you are looking for a work at home job or business.

What do you enjoy doing? Make a list of every single thing you enjoy, or have an interest in.

What are you good at? Make another list of every single talent or ability you have, or have done in previous jobs. Not just regular "jobs" either, look at the things you do for your family, friends, hobbies, etc.

Play the match game. Can any of your items from List #1 be combined with an item from List #2 and made into a home business? For example if you love to clean, and you're good at organizing, you could become a professional organizer or start a cleaning business. If you love writing, you could write articles and eBooks about how to get organized. (or any topic from List #1 or #2)

Do you want to be your own boss or work for someone else? If you want to work for someone else, start researching jobs that would match the items from your lists. If you want to work for yourself, start researching possible home business options, either with an existing company, or forming your own.

There are so many directions you could go in. The hardest part is choosing one. Get clear about what you don't want to do. Hate phone work? Make a note of that. In fact, make a list of every single thing that you don't want to do in a job/biz. Then write a vision of what you DO truly want. If you could wave a magic wand over your life right now, what would you create? What type of work would you be doing? How much money would you be making? Where would you live? How much time would you spend working, and how much time with family? Write all of this down in full detail and refer back to it often. It's your dream, and you need to keep infusing it with life and energy.

Great! You know where you want to end up, now you need to think about the steps that will get you there. Just take it a step at a time, don't get overwhelmed.

It's going to take time to fully realize your vision of working at home. If you're really strapped for cash, consider taking on a part-time job outside the home while you build your work at home job or business. That will relieve the pressure of needing to "create an income right now!" Then you can take your time and build your dream.

Finally, believe you CAN do this! Millions of people are already successfully working from home, and you can too. Just choose a direction and start moving toward it!

Get Creative With Jobs At Home

If you're looking for a way to make some extra money by doing jobs at home, then learn to think outside the box about the possibilities. There are many creative ways to spend a few hours each day doing jobs at home.

Perhaps you are looking to work for an outside company that gives people jobs at home. There are genuine work from home jobs that do not require you to set up a website and they pay well. This allows you to work from home and set your own hours.
