Four Tips for At-Home-Business Call Success

You know it’s happened to you. Your phone rings and it’s the important business call you’ve been waiting for.  As you look at your children wildly circling you, you ask yourself, “Do I take the call?”

It leaves you wondering how other Home-Based Entrepreneurs handle at-home-business calls.

Here are four quick tips:

1. Don’t apologize.  On the days my daughter, London and her cousins (ages four and five) are with me, there ARE times they talk or is noisy when I’m on a business call.  I could easily say, “I’m sorry, my daughter is here…”  But thankfully, I’ve changed, after speaking to another Home-Based Entreprenuer who told me to be proud my daughter is with me.  And she is right.  Now when I proudly state, “My daughter is with me today,” I find callers are more gracious.  Most reply with, “Oh, that’s wonderful! Enjoy your time with her (them).”

2.  Be prepared for the unexpected.  As a mom, you wear many hats, imagine being on Daddy duty.  When on the phone, always smile and project a good attitude.  But be prepared to deal with unexpected situations.   If children are disruptive during a call, remain calm.  This is the time to have a sense of humor and make light of the situation.  If the caller hears the background noise
and you’re unable to quickly control the situation, offer to call back at a later time. “Would ten minutes or a half hour be better for you?”

3.  Give “silent hellos or goodbyes”.  You can develop a “silent hello” (or goodbye) used when on the phone and your children walk in or out.  Wear a headset to free your hands for a big hug and a quiet kiss.  Train your children to be quiet and they understand you can’t hang up just because they’ve arrived.  Your children will soon compete to see who can be the quietest, and you never have to hang up on a client :-)

4. Leave your children “reminders”.  For example you can purchase a small stop sign for your office door.  It serves as a visual reminder for you kids to stop and listen so they don’t burst in during a business call.  Below the sign you could post three questions for your kids to ask themselves before interrupting.

1. Is someone hurt?
2. Does it concern schoolwork?
3. Would you pay $5 for the answer? ($5 = the 15 minutes it takes to work through the question and get refocused)

This should cut the interruptions down to almost zero after about a week.

By being proud of your decision to work from home, being prepared for the unexpected, giving silent hellos or good-byes, and leaving your children reminders, you, too, can experience more success with your at-home-business calls.

Failing in Your Home Based Business

Do you require to start a home based business? Do you reckon you have what it takes? I am going to tell you how I failed at my first home based business. Hopefully you can learn from my mistakes and succeed.

There's many home based business opportunities, a number of them are internet related and some are not. You can start something out of your own imagination. Or you can order a plug-n-play system from somebody else.

My problem is that I got so overwhelmed with the potential that I didn't pay attention to the details. I saw that I could make big money and that is all I saw. In the back of my mind I knew that I would not enjoy the work required to make this business a success. But I  kept looking at the dollar signs. I kept telling myself that I could do something that I wasn't comfortable doing if it meant becoming rich.

I'm now compelled to tell you about a home based business and why I failed at it. It is because I had unrealistic expectations. I dreamed about being my own boss and quitting my day job. I came across an opportunity that seemed too lovely to be true, and it was. Don't get me wrong. This opportunity was legitimate and a lot of people have made a lot of money with it.

You see, I am not comfortable with person to person sales. This job required that I make face to face sales. It required that I run advertising to promote my business. It then required that I make numerous phone calls to sell my product and build a down-line.

I spent a tremendous amount of money on advertising; and I got a lot of results. But each result required that I call the person and try to make a sale. I was so uncomfortable making these calls. I would spend several hours making the calls and by the time I was done, I would be so stressed out that I could not relax. It got to where I could not sleep at night. Eventually I got so stressed that I stopped making the calls. All of the advertising amounted to a huge loss because I was unable to follow up on the leads.

In summary, pick the business opportunity that is right for you. Don't start a business  because somebody else has made money on it. Concentrate on building a business that is right for you and the profits will come.

Here are some important points for you to follow if you require to succeed.

1. Examine the business opportunity and be realistic. If the job is going to require you to take actions that you are uncomfortable with, then you won't succeed.

2. Ignore the $$$ and pick something you like doing. If you don't like what you are doing, you won't succeed.

3. Stay within your personal potential; just because John Doe makes $1000 a week doing a business from home doesn't mean you will. It takes different kinds of people to do different things. Not everybody can succeed at the same thing.

4. Stick with a budget. Don't let somebody else talk you into spending more money then you can afford.

Data Entry Home Work

There are many programs offering data entry home work, which can create a nice income. More an more people are choosing to do this and it seems like the perfect fit for many who choose to do so. A quick search on what people are looking for I see searches on data entry from home work.

It's easy to see that this field is one of the most popular among surfers. I think it's because the cost to get into is minimal and most people find that they have the skill sets already to do whatever is necessary. I mean if you can use a computer and have basic typing skills you should be fine.

If you are comfortable on a computer and have basic typing skills then data Entry jobs could be for you.

There are a few misconceptions with these programs  that you will be typing endlessly to earn nothing. The truth is data entry is an easy work at home job if you feel comfortable on the computer. If you can type at a good speed and be accurate this can be an easy source of income. Especially today with the tools available like spell check, grammar check etc, it makes it a lot easier. In fact it's possible to earn over $40 per hour doing these jobs on-line.

You must do your research, because with anything that's popular there is a dark side. When the scam artist see an opportunity they will creep in to get try and make some money. That's why it is imperative to do the research yourself or find a website that you feel comfortable will aid you in making the selection. On my site I try to give my visitors a selection of what I believe to be companies that they will have a chance a success with.

In my opinion there are only about 3-5 companies that are reliable companies that I would feel comfortable recommending to my visitors. Yes you can find about a hundred or so, but many do not offer good results or opportunities. The other thing I think is important is customer support and training. Any good data entry company worth it's salt has to train and support it's customer base. In addition only a few offer a money back guarantee, which I feel is important to visitors to my web site.  Good companies are out there you just have to find a site that highlights them or do allot of home work and research yourself. It can be done and you can be successful. Really, what do you have to lose? The start up cost is typically less then $50.00 (currently) and you more than likely have everything you need.

Advertise...or Die! Internet Options

The world wide web has given us the great opportunity and freedom to do business all around the world from wherever we may happen to be with just a connection to the internet. This same  advantage is also available to billions of others, selling all sorts of products and services, many of which will be similar to yours.

Competition is, therefore, fierce and because of the sheer scale of the web, unless your web site stands out and makes its presence known, your business will be doomed to mediocrity at best, if not failure, however excellent your product or service may be.

For your business to succeed, it will need to differentiate itself in some way from others. You need to take serious and drastic measures to promote your website. Mercifully, advertising online can be done in many ways, the best of which are listed below:

E-Zines: The Magazines of the Online World
The themes are on specific subjects which are read by those interested in that particular subject. These readers are, therefore, potential customer for that product/service. Advertising your website in E-zines that are related to your business/product will almost guarantee to drive traffic to your website and help increase sales for your services/products. When advertising in E-zines, ensure that you do not advertise alongside competitors.

Enquire beforehand whether there is a policy concerning posting competing advertisements. It would be a good preparatory measure to subscribe to the E-zine first prior to making a decision whether or not to advertise there. An E-zine that runs fewer advertisements is a better choice than one that runs many. To find publications that are relevant to your business, look at the Online Directory of Ezines.

Pay-Per-Click ProgramsThis is an excellent method to advertise your business without the risk of having advertised in the wrong place. With this method, you advertise your website, and only pay for those clicks on the links to it.

Pay-Per-Lead
Here, you pay only for those who download a trial, fill out a form, or enter a sweepstake, or  whatever you choose.

Pay-Per-Click Banner Ads
With this method, you place a banner on an advertising site and you will only be charged for every click that your banner receives.

Opt-In EmailThis is an ultra excellent way to advertise your business/website. With this method, you submit your sales copy to your chosen company that will, in turn, email it out to those on its mailing list. You should exercise caution in your choice of which companies to use as some of the companies advertising their mailing lists as opt-in email service are sometimes really SPAM. An effective sales letter is essential when using opt-in mailing lists as, in their absence, your money, time and effort will be totally wasted.

Working Online Scams - How To Spot Them

There is always the possibility of scams in almost any kind of job, yet, it seems that online jobs are easier to scam these days. If you are vulnerable, you will easily fall for their promises, rewards, and easy hiring procedure, which all turn out to be empty. The presence of these online job scams, unfortunately, makes finding the real jobs rather hard. This is because scammers have defined more sophisticated schemes to make their phony online jobs appear legitimate. And usually, you only find that out come payment time. So how do you avoid such working online scams? How can you tell an online job is genuine or is a mere scam?

Here are some of the warning signs of online job scams. If you spot any of them in your potential job, trash it. You might be looking at a scam.

1. Asks for money. If a potential employer charges fees for more job and company information, start-up kit, training, software, or hiring you, it is most likely a scam. In the first place, you are not supposed to give money to an employer; it’s the other way around.... Please remember, that this does not apply when you are investing in YOUR OWN BUSINESS!

2. Describes itself as legitimate. If what is said about a job is more on its legitimacy but less on the company, pay, nature, and other important details, beware. This is probably just one of the marketing strategies.

3. Promises big and quick cash. Forget the job that says, “Get rich quick.” Or anything of that sort. The truth is, no job can promise you fast financial success. It takes time. It takes hard labor. Such claims are typical to scams.

4. Requires no experience or skill at all. A real job needs to be done by qualified individuals. If an employer says there is little effort on your part, forget it. A legitimate employer wouldn’t entrust an important job to unreliable people. It would be a waste of their money.

5. Comes from an unsolicited email. A job posting you know you haven’t applied to and which appears in an unsolicited email message is most often a scam. Coming from an unsolicited email message, in itself, is quite suspicious.

6. Has a questionable website. A legitimate company normally provides complete contact details in its website. The absence of which might be an indicative it is a scam. If it also tells less about the company history, nature, and what it stands for, be careful.

What to do
The rule of thumb when looking for legitimate online jobs is to do a thorough research. If you find a company rather dubious, look it up in the web by typing the company name and the word “scam” in the search box. The search results can tell you whether a company is reputable.

You can also contact the employer. Ask for important details about the job such as the salary, mode of payment, and other job details not mentioned in the ad post. If the response is somewhat shady, you may want to skip that job out. An employer can tell all the job details upfront if it is legitimate.

To be more assured of the legitimacy of the job, you can ask for a list of references. It should include the company’s employees and contractors. Inquire from them how it is working for the company. Their responses should help you determine whether a job is a scam. Remember, you need to be very careful and decisive when taking on a potential job, as working online scams are growing in number.

Golden Rules For Moms Working Online

Today, as I toggle the task of spending the day with my 5 year old daughter and 4 year old niece and working from home, I thought I'd share some insight for Mothers who are considering working online from the comforts of home.

Whether you have given up your corporate job to spend more time with the kids or want to augment the household income, work-from-home online jobs can be one of your best options to bring in steady profit. Setting up a home office sends the idea that you are committed to the family and your career. But as good as it is to make you both professionally and domestically functional, working online—and at home—can present some problems. What are you supposed to choose between a wailing kid and a project nearing deadline? How are the kids expected to behave when mommy’s working? And who’s going to wash the dishes? Moms working online are sometimes torn between work and household duties. So, how do you draw the line?

Families are as diverse as the individuals that make them; therefore, parenting and running the household greatly vary in style. But though that’s the case, online working moms should follow specific rules to allow productivity. Here are some of them:

1. Discuss the setup with the family. It should be agreed upon by the husband and, in case they are all grown up, the kids. If the kids are still toddlers or need close attention, decide if you are going to hire a caregiver, and if you are, identify if it’s going to be a full-time or a part-time caregiver. In most cases, part-time sitters are more practical since mommies won’t work the entire day anyway.

2. Define your work schedule. It, of course, depends on your preference, family, and other duties. But whatever your schedule is, make sure everyone knows it to lessen distractions and interruptions. Setting definite working hours also gives your kids the impression that they have a space in your schedule and that they can wait for their time rather than barge in your home office any time they want. Stick to your schedule at all times, unless of course urgent events merit your attention.

3. Decide whether you will have a closed door or open door policy. A closed door policy works better if you have a hired sitter. This allows you to work with little or no distractions and your sitter to comfortably assume responsibility without your constant inquiry and checking. The open door, on the  other hand, is advised if you don’t have a hired caregiver. With this policy, you can instantly check how the things are going with your kids and the house. But since this can invite noise and distraction, you can close the door whenever you need extra concentration and are talking over the phone.

4. Orient yourself, the kids, and the caregiver about the possible interruptions that you can and cannot respond. Be as specific as possible and show sturdiness. Don’t go out of your home office at the sound of a whimper; instead let your caregiver do their job. If the kids are grown up, tell them the kind of environment you need and how they can help you achieve it. Children just need to be talked to and constantly reminded.

5. Lay out your expectations—how the kids are supposed to behave, the amount of household chores you can assume, the level of noise you can tolerate, among other things. Then, set out a plan. If, for instance, your kids are older, you can ask them to tidy their rooms on their own. Or you can work far from the living or TV room. Moms working online and their families, at the start, need to make certain adjustments.
